Boycott the Beijing Olympics: Part II

I will not be watching the Beijing Olympics on television. I will not care how many medals each country gets.

Just like race car drivers who have cigarette advertisements plastered onto their cars, the Olympic athletes will be promoting death. Instead of death to cigarette smokers, the Beijing athletes will be promoting death to Tibetans.

Javelin throwers will be spearing Tibetans in their hearts.

Swimmers in techno-robotic super sized Speedos will be swimming in the blood and among the corpses of dead Tibetans.

Marathon runners will be trampling over the dead bodies of Tibetans.

Instead of promoting athleticism and healthy living, the Beijing Olympic athletes will be promoting death.

hi there,
i was looking for a list of beijing olympics sponsors and came across your blog. it really made my day to read about your decision to boycott the olympics. it inspired me to know that we all have the power to make decisions in our own way that doesn't support cruel and inhumane regimes. i'm a tibetan living in new york and i completely share your decision to boycott the olympics by not watching AND limiting what i buy from the olympics sponsors. yes, i did initially feel that my boycott would not make any difference at all but i think the issue is about morals and making sure that i don't indirectly support hem. i know i am just one person but this is what i personally can do to express my disgust at the Chinese government. i'm a huge sports fan and its sad that i can't watch the games but i'm even more upset about what the chinese have and continue to do in tibet. thank u.

Thanks, tibetan nyc.

I can't say if my personal boycott will be 100% effective. I do think that if we take little steps in opposing the Beijing Olympics, these little steps will add up.

Thank you for commenting on my blog, Skinny Dipper, and thank you so much for posting your own on the Beijing Olympics and the boycott. Sometimes I feel like the lone ranger when I talk about this - people shove back at me how the Olympics are about "world peace" and "forgetting politics." But how is this possible when the Olympics are a world class money making machine for big corp.s and propaganda machine for Beijing??? I know I'm preaching to the choir. Thank you again and keep blogging!

You are not alone. I won't watch or follow the Beijing olympics in any way and will avoid purchasing products from any of the sponsors, from now to the eternity. I'll also suggest the same to my friends.
